Cleaning and exams are just one of the essential services you can receive from Dr. Bradley Bullard, Dr. Alicia Bullard, or Dr. Carly Sherod. Whether you are bringing your child to the dentist for the first time or are well into your senior years, you can depend on our team of experienced dentists to be your partner in oral health.
Walnut Street Dental Service Offerings
A typical cleaning and oral exam involves one of our technicians removing plaque and tartar from your teeth with a handheld dental tool. Scraping your teeth in this manner is necessary to remove the plaque and tartar you cannot remove with brushing alone, as well as food debris between your teeth. The cleaning portion of the exam also includes flossing and polishing your teeth.
We usually take X-rays once a year to serve as a baseline for potential oral health problems. If you are due for X-rays, a technician will take them before starting your cleaning. After your cleaning, one of our dentists inspects your jaws, teeth, and gums to determine if you have any issues requiring you to schedule another appointment.
Fillings
Tooth decay occurs when bacteria eat away your tooth’s enamel and cause a small hole. Dr. Bradley Bullard, Dr. Alicia Bullard, or Dr. Sherod must treat the tooth with filling material to preserve it. While silver amalgam was the default material used to fill cavities in the past, you can also choose tooth-colored filling material that blends in seamlessly to avoid making your dental work obvious to others.
Root canal
The inside of your teeth contains pulp consisting of connective tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected due to dental disease, trauma, or tooth decay, you need to have a root canal performed by one of our dentists. During the root canal, your dentist removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and places a dental crown over it to prevent a repeat infection.
Tooth extractions
Common reasons patients need a tooth extracted include dental disease, severe tooth decay, a deep crack that cannot be repaired, preparing for orthodontic treatment, or removing wisdom teeth. Your dentist provides you with numbing anesthesia before using an instrument called a dental elevator to loosen the tooth and its roots from their socket. You will feel several back-and-forth motions until your dentist removes the entire tooth and its roots from your jawbone.
